Northwest Indiana Paddling Association

It is with a heavy heart that we have learned that the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association has lost one of our own. Fellow kayaker and friend, Lorri E. Kovitz, passed away on October 25th after a long battle with cancer.  Lorri will be remembered as a very determined paddler that did not let losing a leg to cancer deter her from getting on the water and enjoying the splendor of nature.

Lorri was the inspiration behind NWIPA's push towards the creation of the Michigan City Hansen Park ADA Canoe and Kayak Launch which was dedicated to her on Sept. 26th, 2015 during the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The creation of additional ADA launches throughout Northwest Indiana and beyond has become one of NWIPA's top priorities.

We are deeply humbled and honored to learn that Lorri's family requested that gifts in memory of Lorri be made to benefit the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association. These funds will be used to develop and make more accessible water trails throughout Northwest Indiana as well as help educate people about paddling. Both Lorri's tenacity for life and brilliant sense of humor will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her. Thank you so much!
